CV

My name is Ryan Dandelion. I am a Sydney-based photographic artist working in traditional mediums of film photography, silver gelatin, alternative process and hybrid digital inkjet printing techniques.

My work explores themes of vulnerability, personality, sexuality, and the photographer & subject relationship. I have been practicing photography for 9 years, self-taught from the internet and my peers.

Born in 1989, at the age of 16 I experimented briefly when my father gifted me his camera, and took it seriously from 25, when I realised I had both passion and talent for photographing people and playing with light. In 2023, I joined the now defunct Rozelle Darkroom and began my printing journey creating silver gelatin prints, starting to teach, and experimenting with large format cameras.

I am neurodiverse, a highly sensitive person (sensory processing sensitivity). My process involves utilising my sensitivity to hold space, create connection, and encourage vulnerability in my subjects using music, movement and the breath.

I make my art on the stolen lands of the Gadigal people of the Eora nation, who are the rightful owners and custodians of this land we now call Sydney. I acknowledge and pay respect to Elders past and present, and to the generations of families who have gathered on this land for over 65,000 years. Sovereignty has never been ceded. This always was and always will be, Aboriginal land.
